West Lakes Shore
Whole-home renovation & backyard in West Lakes Shore
A typical eighties build: small, pokey rooms, carrying the layers of every renovation that had come before it. The task was to bring the home to life without stripping away the charm that made it worth keeping.
The defining move was the fireplace. Knocking out the original brick mass opened the kitchen to a framed view of the ocean, and with it, the whole plan began to breathe.
Where walls had to stay, we cut through them instead: precise openings that let each room borrow light and sightlines from the next. The rooms kept their walls. They just stopped feeling like they had them.
Kitchen, ensuite, laundry, drawing room and backyard were resolved as one composition, by one team, from first drawn line to handover.
- Why Layout Matters More Than You Think
Layout is not resolved after other design decisions are made. It is where design should start. A room with a layout problem cannot be fixed by the tiles.
